China Marketers’ Agency Rosters Shrinking,
Digital Budgets Increasing
According to the seventh wave of R3 and SCOPEN’s Agency Scope Study, China
marketers’ rosters are shrinking, and they are moving more business to local
agencies. R3 recently met with more than 400 senior marketers in China to
understand the process, perception and performance of the agencies they work
with. This wave’s report covers more than 300 multinational and local compa-
nies, with over 740 client-agency relationships analyzed. The shift towards local
talent and the decreasing number of agencies on client rosters are just two of the
trends identifed through the study, with changes occurring in several other areas,
including a signifcant increase in digital marketing budgets.

Why it matters
“Just as electricity transformed almost everything 100 years ago, today I actually have a hard
time thinking of an industry that I don’t think AI will transform in the next several years”.
—Andrew Ng, Founder of Google Brain
According to Tess Posner, Executive Director of AI4ALL, the AI industry is expected to grow to $1.49-
$2.95 Trillion, impacting areas like Autonomous Driving, Personal Finance, Identifying New Drugs,
Language Translation, Improving Crop Yields, Customer Support, Fraud Detection, Weather Forecasting,
Personal Assistants and more.
Breakthroughs in AI and advancements in quantum computing will enable tasks that were once
thought impossible for a computer to accomplish.
Examples of organizations using Dwave to solve complex problems include – IBM, Google, NASA, Intel
-David Venturelli, NASA – The State of Quantum Computing.
The current state of machine intelligence
AI is believed to be the technology that will set off the next wave of mas-
sively successful startups.

Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and
useful. One area they are focusing on is Smart Replies. Smart Reply uses machine learning
to give you better responses the more you use it. It scans your emails and suggests pre-popu-
lated responses. For example if someone emails you“would you like to go to dinner tonight
Gmail may suggest “sounds great!” as a one-tap reply.
