June 2018PrefaceThe Electric Power Monthly (EPM) presents monthly electricity statistics for a wide audience includingCongress, Federal and State agencies, the electric power industry, and the general public. The purposeof this publication is to provide energy decision makers with accurate and timely information that maybe used in forming various perspectives on electric issues that lie ahead. In order to provide anintegrated view of the electric power industry, data in this report have been separated into two majorcategories: electric power sector and combined heat and power producers. The U.S. Energy InformationAdministration (EIA) collected the information in this report to fulfill its data collection anddissemination responsibilities as specified in the Federal Energy Administration Act of 1974 (Public Law93 275) as amended. BackgroundThe Office of Electricity, Renewables & Uranium Statistics, U.S. EIA, U.S. Department of Energy, preparesthe EPM. This publication provides monthly statistics at the State (lowest level of aggregation), CensusDivision, and U.S. levels for net generation, fossil fuel consumption and stocks, cost, quantity, andquality of fossil fuels received, sales of electricity to ultimate consumers, associated revenue, andaverage price of electricity sold.In addition, the report contains rolling 12-month totals in the nationaloverviews, as appropriate.Data sourcesThe EPM contains information from the following data sources: Form EIA-923, Power Plant OperationsReport; Form EIA-826, Monthly Electric Sales and Revenue With State Distributions Report; Form EIA- 860, Annual Electric Generator Report; Form EIA-860M, Monthly Update to the Annual ElectricGenerator Report; and Form EIA-861, Annual Electric Power Industry Report. Forms and theirinstructions may be obtained from:eia.gov/survey/#electricity.
