Diabetes a Chronic Condition With No Known Cure
Diabetes is a chronic condition where the body does not make enough insulin or becomes resistant
–Type 1 diabetes (T1D) results when the pancreas naturally produces little or no insulin
T1D cause is unknown, and diagnosis usually occurs in adolescence
Insulin injections are the key therapy to manage T1D (as coma and death occurs without) and there is
currently no cure - though current research is working towards one to potentially be available in ~10 years
–Type 2 diabetes (T2D) results from insulin resistance, as over time insulin production can slow down
T2D driven by unhealthy eating habits & sedentary lifestyle, and is an acquired disease
Diet, exercise, and weight loss are initial treatments for T2D
Left untreated, cardiovascular disease, neuropathy, retinopathy, kidney failure, and even death can occur

In U.S. ~30MM people (~10% of the population) are estimated to have diabetes
(Type 1 & Type 2), and this is expected to grow to ~35MM by 2045
–Out of this ~30MM, only ~23MM people have been diagnosed
~7MM are undiagnosed and therefore not currently receiving treatment (~25% of all US diabetics)
–T1D U.S. prevalence 1.25 million (Roughly 1 in 300 people), representing 5% of diagnosed diabetics
Furthermore, an estimated ~85MM US Adults (~35% of US Adults) have Pre-Diabetes and are at
increased risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, and/or having a stroke
The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) estimates there are ~425MM people
worldwide with Diabetes, and this is expected to grow to ~630 MM by 2045
–Type 2 accounts for 90-95% of all cases, caused by unhealthy lifestyle, obesity, etc.

Poor Diagnosis Rates and Poor Treatment and Control of Blood Sugar
Levels Are Global Problems
Diagnosis and Optimal Treatment of Diabetes (T1 and T2) DifficultControlling Blood Sugar a Worldwide Challenge: Mean HbA1C in T2D
Note: HbA1C (A1c) is a measure of average blood sugar levels across 2-3 months.
Levels 6.5% indicate diabetes.。。。。。。。。。
