ABSTRACT
The objective of this study is to examine entrepreneurial intentions and its antecedents.
Specifically, the study tried to examine the impact of Role Model, Entrepreneurship Education,
and the influence of perceptions of feasibility and desirability towards entrepreneurship and the
moderating impact of risk perception on entrepreneurial intentions of university students in
Tanzania.
The quantitative approach was employed as research design. Simple Random sampling
technique was used to draw sample from population. Data was collected though online
questionnaire and distributed, collected data was analyzed through descriptive statistics,
independent t-test, multiple linear regression and correlation analysis. A total of 235 respondents
consist our sample.
Results suggest that the effect role model and entrepreneurship Education on self-
employment intentions is high, but Entrepreneurship education was a better predictor of the
student&39;s entrepreneurial intentions. On the contrary, it was found that perceived desirability
significantly influenced the relationship of role model -entrepreneurial intentions, while
perceived feasibility didn’t have any influence on the entrepreneurship education towards
entrepreneurial intentions.
The result indicated that there is a significant positive relationship exist between
perceived risk and perceived feasibility towards student’s entrepreneurial intention. From an
empirical point of view, the sample was limited to higher education students in one country. This
limits the scope of generalization. Further studies, comparing antecedents of intentions and
behavior in multiple contexts should be undertaken.
Key words: Entrepreneurial intentions, Entrepreneurship Education, Role Model, Tanzania

IX Chapter 1. Introduction
Chapter 1. Introduction
Entrepreneurship is one of the most talked about issue in the world; It is a vital force
behind the development of each country&39;s economy. It is the life force of every economy in the
world, as it is the concept that enables the creation of jobs, creation of wealth, technological
innovation and boost the country&39;s economic growth (KritiKoS, 2014).
1.1 Background of the study
During the 1970’s big companies drove the economies and they regarded the small
companies as a problem (Morgenthaler, 2007). Nonetheless the trend has changed, since small
business enterprises are engines of the economy worldwide in terms of jobs and wealth creation
(Zahra, 1999).
Africa has experienced little in the way of growth for many years, especially due to poor
economic growth during the 1980s; Africa trails all the other major continents. This state of the
economy cannot be blamed on lack of resources, for the continent is bestowed with ample
natural resources, therefore the poor economy in Africa and Tanzania in particular, is caused by
poor post-colonial government policies (Kushoka, 2008).
This does not matter whether universities or governments prepare or don’t prepare people for
entrepreneurship. People themselves can develop entrepreneurial alertness and utilize business
opportunities that present themselves. That is to say people are considering entrepreneurship as
an attractive and alternative career.
12 Statement of the problem

higher education institutions of the country. This number is also swelling with the growth of new
universities and the successfiil intakes of the older universities in the country.
In due time, public and private organizations’ demand for fr
