Imaginethevalueofimprovingcustomercommunications,productquality,andthetimelinessofshipments.Customersatisfactionlevelswouldincrease,additionalorderscouldbeprocessed,paymentdelayswouldreduce.Further,whatiftheorganizationwasabletoproactivelysupplythecustomerwiththenecessarymaterialsandproductsrequiredwithoutrequiringthecustomertotakeactionTheorganizationcouldessentiallyanticipateandmeetthecustomer’srequirementsandsubmitaninvoicetothecustomerwithoutcumbersomeprocedures,paper-basedformsorlengthyphonecalls.Theresultingpositivecash-flowwouldenabletheorganizationtoexpandproductioncapabilitiesorre-investinotherstrategicinitiatives. This“vision”fororder-to-cashisonlyoneofthemanywaysthattheprocesscanbeimprovedtoaddvaluedirectlytotheorganizationandultimatelytotheend-customersthatitserves.Thevalue-addedtotheorganizationcanbemeasuredinimprovedcustomersatisfactionlevels,increasedordervolume,reducedreturns,diminishedcreditproblems,improvedpaymentcyclesandreceivablesturnover,anddecreasederror-relatedre-work.Theprimaryvaluetoorganizationwillrelatetodramaticincreasesinprofitabilityandcash-flow.
