4.1.1 Academic Operations Manager

Summary
The Academic Operations Manager (AOM) forms part of a support team, based in the EF English First central office in Shanghai. The team provides support to EF English First centers (including EF invested centers and franchised centers) in China. The AOM assists in the effective running of the academic program and is responsible for maintaining and supporting the academic quality of the EF English First products and academic staff in designated centers in China.
Maintenance of the Academic Program
The AOM liaises with the Director of Studies (DoS) at each center in regard to specific academic matters, welfare of teachers and any matters arising from the day to day running of the operation. The AOM is the Director of Studies’ link to EF English First general policy and ensures that there is a flow of accurate information between the Center Manager (CM) and DoS, and that channels of communication are sufficiently well organized to enable the effective running of the center. The AOM will also ensure that the interests of the Investor are maintained within the parameters of the EF English First academic system.
Welfare
The AOM may represent the interests of teachers fairly to the Center Manager in cases where the DoS is unable to do so.
Recruitment of Director of Studies
The AOM will be responsible for monitoring the recruitment of DoSes for the centers under his/her supervision.
Training of School Managers
The AOM provides induction training for each new DoS and Center Manager. Training involves informing staff of all aspects related to the academic system as outlined in the operations manual, as well as general guidelines on academic management. The AOM should also provide pre-training guidance and support to new DoSes.
School Visits and Evaluations
The AOM is responsible for visiting centers within his/her designated region. Visits are designed to ensure that EF English First procedures are being followed and to check the effectiveness and performance of school management and academic staff.
Product Development
The AOM ensures that centers are provided with the necessary material in order to deliver the EF academic system. This involves developing and updating tests, supplementary materials and advising on course outlines, where possible coordinating materials developed in-center. The AOM also co-ordinates centralized product development initiatives and is responsible for overseeing the implementation of all product improvements in centers.
